Crisis and Emergency Contact Policy

Effective Date: November 12, 2025

At The Tempered Way Therapy LLC, your safety and well-being are our highest priorities. While we are committed to providing compassionate therapeutic support during scheduled sessions, our practice is not equipped to provide immediate crisis intervention or emergency services.
Please review the following guidelines for what to do in the event of a crisis or emergency.

1. In Case of an Emergency

If you are experiencing a mental-health emergency or crisis, please do not wait for a therapy appointment and do not attempt to contact your therapist through the website, email, or social media. Instead, take one of the following actions immediately:

  • Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

  • Call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

  • Text HOME to 741741 to connect with a counselor through the Crisis Text Line.

  • For veterans: Dial 988, then press 1 to reach the Veterans Crisis Line.

2. Urgent Mental-Health Support (Non-Emergency)

If you are not in immediate danger but need urgent mental-health support, the following national and local resources are available 24/7:

  • Colorado Crisis Services: 1-844-493-8255 or text TALK to 38255

  • National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Helpline: 1-800-950-NAMI (6264)

  • Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA): 1-800-662-HELP (4357)

  • The Trevor Project (LGBTQ+ Support): 1-866-488-7386 or text START to 678-678

  • RAINN (Sexual Assault Hotline): 1-800-656-HOPE (4673)

3. Non-Emergency Contact

If you are not in crisis but need to reach your therapist for non-urgent matters:

  • Use the secure client portal to schedule, reschedule, or message your clinician.

  • Contact your provider via the contact method provided during intake.

  • Please allow up to 48 business hours for a response to non-urgent communication.

4. Availability and Contact Limitations

The Tempered Way LLC does not provide 24/7 clinical support. Therapists respond to messages during regular business hours (Monday – Friday, excluding holidays).

Please note:

  • Social-media platforms, email, or website contact forms are not appropriate for emergencies.

  • Messages submitted outside of office hours will be addressed at the next available opportunity.

5. Crisis Protocol During Sessions

If a client discloses thoughts, intentions, or plans to harm themselves or someone else during a session, the therapist will take immediate steps to ensure safety, including contacting emergency services if necessary. Any provider with The Tempered Way Therapy LLC is a mandated reporter under Colorado law and will act in compliance with all legal and ethical obligations if a client’s safety—or the safety of another person—is at risk.

6. Safety Planning

If you are concerned about managing distress or crises between sessions, we encourage you to collaborate with your therapist on a personalized safety plan, which may include:

  • Coping and grounding strategies;

  • A list of trusted friends, family, or support persons to contact;

  • Crisis numbers and local mental-health resources;

  • Early-warning signs and individualized action steps.

7. Understanding Our Scope

The Tempered Way Therapy LLC provides psychotherapy and counseling services but does not offer:

  • Crisis-intervention or on-call services;

  • Same-day or walk-in appointments;

  • Emergency psychiatric evaluation or medication management.

We focus on scheduled therapeutic sessions and referrals to appropriate emergency or crisis services when needed.

8. Acknowledgment

By using our services, you acknowledge that you understand and accept the limitations of our crisis and emergency support.
We encourage all clients to maintain updated emergency contacts and to keep crisis resources readily available.
